Workshops description

DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS

Tips for teaching IELTS writing - Louise Oliver
Writing is the area students find hardest to grasp with IELTS and unfortunately they are often disappointed with their final scores. As teachers, we need to prepare our students not only by teaching them English but also by being familiar with what the examiners are looking for in the finished product. This seminar aims to offer advice on how to prepare students to write IELTS essays and some ideas for making writing lessons engaging and to really interest students in the task.

Improving relationships in the classroom - Monica Ralea
They didn’t ..., they didn’t ..., they didn’t ... (pay attention, for example). Are there solutions to such situations? Knowing our students better might be an answer. How about knowing ourselves? This might bring even more answers. And not only to classroom situations. Through practical activities that can be taken to the classroom, the workshop will familiarise the participants with NLP (Neuro Linguistis Programming) concepts such as maps and filters, pacing and leading, building rapport, that hopefully will shed a new light on classroom relationships.

Communication for Democratic Citizenship - Ruxandra Popovici
The session will focus on aspects of language, attitude and behaviour in social interaction situations with the aim of opening up communication channels between interlocutors, speakers and the audience. Successful communication implies respect and understanding of the other, critical thinking, evaluation of context and self-evaluation. The choice and use of language is central in social interaction situations. We introduce here the concept of ‘communication for democratic citizenship’ as an essential competence for the 21st century.
